I am Ta’a, Coast Salish Grandmother, Guardian of Children and Families, and Healer of those Abused. The subjugation and oppression of the First Na¬tions people began when the European colonizers first arrived on our shores over five hundred years ago. They brought with them the pervasive cultural sicknesses of violence, greed, and disease. They tried to fully assimilate us into the European way of life while simultaneously stripping us of our own cultural practices. Our people were displaced from their traditional lands, and moved to pockets of land called “reservations”. Our nomadic way of life ceased to be possible.

Our children have begun to return to the traditional ways of heal¬ing and living. The long houses are busy with the spiritual songs in the winters, fortifying and healing individuals and communities. Cer¬emonies and prayers weave through our communities, and out into the world. The pendulum has swung and we are returning to power in this new age of spirituality. Finally, the larger society is hearing our teach¬ings about the cycles of nature and life. There is a growing recognition by that society of our interconnectedness, and a movement towards a time of equality and harmony. Spiritual enlightenment and reverence for the natural environment is becoming the norm.
Divination: It is time to embrace your spirituality. Create your own ritual, or go to a place that is sacred to you so that you may drink from the knowledge of your ancestors. Take pride in how far you’ve come and take steps to ensure that your environment is serene and sacred.
Reversed Divination: There is an oppressive air around you. Is someone holding you back or are you holding yourself back? Are you in balance with your environment or is there something toxic that you need to address? Stop thinking with your head and start thinking with your heart.
